Welcome!

As the regional coordinator for Indiana, I’d like to welcome you to InTFAP or Indiana TFAP:
the Indiana chapter of The Feminist Art Project created after its first initial meeting in October, 2008, in Indianapolis for the purpose of linking feminist artists across the state in discussion, exhibition opportunities, and activism. InTFAP is a state chapter of the national organization of TFAP -- The Feminist Art Project http://feministartproject.rutgers.edu/ -- and as such, fully endorses its mission statement to actively work against “the ongoing erasure of women from the cultural record” by promoting “diverse feminist art events, education and publications through its website and online calendar” and facilitating “networking and regional program development throughout the U.S.”

One main reason for the creation of InTFAP is the opportunity for a juried exhibition of feminist artwork in March, 2010 (Women's History Month) at New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art [see Call for Entries above http://www.nhgallery.com/], together with an accompanying scholarly symposium. Such a show would continue the Hoosier tradition of Border Crossings (a 1990 symposium of women artists) and Matter Mind Spirit: 12 Contemporary Indiana Women Artists (a statewide exhibit in 1998 organized which eventually travelled to the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.; the accompanying catalogue published by Indiana University Press included essays by curator Jean Robertson and scholar Judith Vale Newton. Newton and Carol Ann Weiss have been an integral part of the historical recording of Indiana women artists; in 2004, they co-authored the award-winning publication, Skirting the Issue: Stories of Indiana’s Historical Women Artists (Indiana Historical Society Press).

To be added to the listserve, please contact me – Peg Brand – as the regional coordinator of Indiana TFAP at pb@indiana.edu. Thanks to all the members of the Founding Committee of InTFAP who met in October, 2008: Brent Aldrich, Yara Cluver, Peg Fierke, Paula Granger, Donna Hooper, Sam Jones, Mary Klopfer, Karen Land, Charlene Marsh, Abigail Montgomery, Erika Myers-Bromwell, Darlene Mitchell, Jean Robertson, Carolyn Roth, Joanne Kuhn Titolo, Cara Wade, and Katie Waters.
